Research interests:
My cross-cultural observations of health attitudes, behaviors and treatments among East and West African cultures, inspired me to investigate how sociocultural beliefs and behavior articulate with biological characteristics, processes and systems.  My dissertation, The Effects of Cellular Theta Breathing Meditation on Cell Mediated Immune Response: A Controlled, Randomized Investigation of Altered Consciousness and Health, explores how healing-oriented, ritualized altered consciousness, so common in the ethnographic record, influences immune function.
Additional research interests include alternative medicine, traditional healing, human health and evolution, medical ecology, biology of human consciousness, shamanism, and human sexuality.
